Food

Introduction

Food can be a problem especially if you are a vegetarian. Even though almost all food places do have provisions for vegetarian food, the Chinese vegetarian food may not suit our spicy Indian taste buds.

Breakfast and Dinner will be provided by the hostel on week days. Since a student would remain in the College during lunch time on weekdays, therefore lunch has to taken in the College canteen itself. On weekends, all the three meals will be provided.

Hostel Food

Hostel food is usually served at a common dining hall and there are fixed times when the food can be taken. However, there are provisions to pack the food so that it can be eaten later. Hostel food is usually catered and one can choose from Halal, Non-vegetarian and vegetarian food. But then a scholar might not like the food he gets in the hostel and it also depends on the caterer and the hostel. But what scholars can do is that they can ask the hostel authorities to arrange for an Indian caterer. This also depends on the willingness of the hostel and the number of Indian scholars in the hostel.

Apart from this, each hostel also has a pantry with a microwave and a refrigerator which can be used to prepare and store one's own food. Hostels might also have vending machines from where snacks and drinks can be bought.

College Canteen

Since most of the times, a student will have to spend his afternoon in College, he has to buy and eat his food in the College canteen itself. The quality and variety of food in the College Canteen depends mainly on the College. Many times, the options available for vegetarians become very less. However, our advice here would be to try to survive somehow. The food may not be that tasty, but it would be good enough for your health and at least filling enough for your stomach.

Other Food Resources

Apart from the College and the Hostel food, food can also be bought from market. The three most common Food shops: Seven eleven, Cold Storage and Fair Price are normally present close to the hostels. It is often useful to keep a stock of noodles and other ready to make food. Apart from this, food courts are also present in each locality. Lastly, fast food centres like Mc Donald's and KFC are also very commonplace.
