Apart from the examination, the hostel accommodation and arrival and return air fare ticket which are all provided free of cost in the scholarship, a scholar is also given a monthly allowance of S$ 200 along with a one time S$ 200 settling in allowance. This 200 dollars is just sufficient for basic requirements and additional support may be required. The minimum basic monthly expenses are as follows:

Miscellaneous Fee - S$20

Mobile bill - S$30

Food - S$50

Transportation - S$40

Lecture Notes and other school related stuff - S$20

Other than this there are some other expenses also which one has to bear out

Air Fare (to and fro) - can vary from around S$400 in June to more than S$800 in November

School Uniform (minimum of two sets) - around S$80

Scholastic Aptitude Test (or SAT) - around S$100 for each test

All the expenses mentioned above are merely the basic and in reality, a scholar might have to spend more. But its not at all impossible to survive in the basic allowance (leaving alone the airfare).

Even though it is mentioned that a scholar on arrival should possess at least S$400, but we think this might be a bit less especially when the first scholarship allowance only comes in the end of January. A minimum of S$1000 should always be there in the bank account in case the scholar might have to come back to India in case of any emergency.
