Settling In

Introduction

Settling in and adjusting to a new country and new environment may not be the easiest thing to do. Getting accustomed to a new way of life both in hostel and college might take some time.

Seniors

Most of the times, you will attend a College or go to a hostel where your seniors from India are already there. It is your seniors who will be the people who will help you the most to acclimatize to the new ways of life. Seniors have already gone through all this and will definitely be an important guide for you. Of course, the seniors also expect something in return (ragging). Apart from the few sessions of ragging where you have to please your seniors, other times it will be your seniors who would be helping you. In most of the hostels, all the Indians live like a big family and participate actively on key national days, festivals and individual birthdays.

Orientations

Coming to Singapore or probably any other country, you will have to go through a lot of Orientations, both in the hostel and college. The basic aim of orientations is to get new comers to bond with each other, which is quite good. But most Indians might not like the way in which they are conducted. You are made to dance, cheer and play group games which might be annoying. But if you are ready to take it gamely and as part of fun, it would not be difficult to go through it and in the process, you are bound to make some good friends too.
